Data design:
The post-corona society
Geeske Boudestein // P2
The role of our socio-economic background on the way we experience COVID-19 and it's influence on the post-corona society
For this project I collected data from two groups with different socio-economic backgrounds and compared what topics the talked about, the tone and the sources, to sketch a more accurate image of how we perceive the coronacrisis and how this will form the post-corona society
Why?
I was born and still live in Spijkenisse, a small city/town near Rotterdam.
Spijkenisse is more working class environment, with overall lower education and income. I noticed that the data in the database was really different from the conversations, messages and data from my contacts in Spijkenisse. I also noted that a lot of the articles speculating about the post-corona society didn't always take into account the difference in socio-economic background. Which I think is important to do to create a realistic speculation of a post-corona society
How?
Apart from the database we had with the class, I also started collecting data from my conversations, messages, groupchat and social media timeline from my contacts in Spijkenise. I took in account the age and education of the persons, for a better comparison.
